Project
360 degree Laser Scanning for 3D
Innovative Design, Inc. (IDI) was hired by a major paper producer to develop a mechanism for removing and reinstalling an air knife while the paper machine was still in operation. The air knife had previously been manually positioned in close tolerance to the paper and, because of the potential for damaging the web, changing it during operations was not considered viable. The area available for mounting the mechanism is extremely congested and detailed drawings were not available. Using the FARO Focus3D Laser Scanner, IDI was able to develop precise drawings of the area and then design a mechanism to remove, reinsert and properly position the air knife, allowing for improved production.
This same laser scanner has been utilized for numerous similar projects and is truly cutting-edge technology for as-built documentation.
